Temporary
Residents
You
are entitled to see a doctor anywhere in the UK if you are away from home and
in need of medical help. You can do this simply by asking to see the nearest doctor
as a temporary resident. Likewise, we will be happy to see relatives or friends staying
with you if they need a doctor.
Health
Promotion
Under current government guidelines, all doctors are expected to hold certain information about their patients eg blood pressure, height, weight, smoking and drinking habits etc. Therefore, it is important that patients over the age of 15 should make annual appointments with the practice nurse for a health check.
From time to time all patients will be asked to fill in a questionnaire about themselves. This is entirely voluntary but it would help us to help you if you can complete the questionnaire as honestly as possible.
Health promotion leaflets on giving up smoking, drinking alcohol and on healthy eating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle are available at the surgery. The doctors or the practice nurse will gladly discuss all health problems with you.
If you suffer from any of the following you should see the doctor or nurse regularly for a check-up:
chronic heart disease, stroke, hypertension, diabetes, asthma, left ventricular dysfunction (heart disease), epilepsy, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or hypothyroidism.
In addition to those services provided under government guidelines, our practice offers the following enhanced services:
influenza and pneumococcal immunisation, childhood vaccinations, minor operations, rheumatoid drugs monitoring, lithium monitoring, INR monitoring, methadone maintenance monitoring, IUCD fitting and removal and depo provera injections.
Referrals
Most of our clinical referrals are sent to the Referral Management Centre, which is based at the Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board in Penarth. All clinical referrals are logged and then forwarded to the appropriate department and hospital.
You can check the approximate waiting time as follows:
• Internet - www.howis.wales.nhs.uk
• Telephone - RMC on 029 2035 0630
• NHS Direct - 0845 46 47
Research
and Planning
Information
about patients is requested for a wide variety of purposes including education,
research, monitoring, epidemiology, public health surveillance, clinical audit
and planning. The practice will anonymise data where possible. Only where it is
essential for the purpose will identifiable records be disclosed. Such disclosures
will be kept to the minimum necessary for the purpose.
You have a right to object to any such disclosures and your objection will be
respected.
Financial
Audit
The
Health Authority has a duty to occasionally check on claims made by practices
for payments. The person carrying out the check will have been properly trained
and authorised by the Health Authority and will be subject to a duty of confidentiality
in their employment contract or because of their registration with a statutory
regulatory body. Only the small part of the record relating to the claim will
be made available to the person carrying out the check. |
